I’m an engineer, former CEO who enjoys spending this phase of my career advising those interested in solar on the opportunities and possible issues of going solar. Currently we are in a race with utilities on who can build out capacity sooner. In 2023 Utilities jumped to be 60% of all new solar capacity built in the USA with Home Owners, Commercial and Community Solar making up only 40% of new capacity. Once non battery solar nears its maximum % of grid capacity (like it did in California) many of the Net Metering incentives for businesses and homeowners will fade away.
